Web Standards

All of the Web sites I design adhere closely to the World Wide Web Consortium's accessibility standards. All Web pages are validated to make sure they display properly on (almost) every browser. The pages use text, not graphics, to convey information so they are more accessible with non-visual and text-based browsers.

Web Programming Languages

I designs Web sites using the latest technology -- so long as that technolgy is functional and accessible. This Web site, for example, is written in XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.

If you think your target audience won't have the latest up-to-date software (which many people don't), or if you don't want to worry about that extra X, I can design Web sites using HTML and just a little bit of CSS.

Scripts and Multimedia

I don't use complicated scripts, but I may use simple ones, like image mouse-overs, alerts, and pop-up windows (the kind that display extra information, not the kind that displays ads). However not everyone's browsers can understand scrips, or they may have JavaScript turned off.

Multimedia objects, such as QuickTime movies, are used so long as they are accessible to the Web site's visitors.

Graphics

Not everyone has a high-speed internet connection that will download graphics quickly. For those people with slower connections, some images can take a very long time to download. Some people have home pages hosted through other organizations and are not able to store graphics on a server.

I can design pages that use few or no graphics at all. Bright background colors, text colors, and effects with CSS provide an appealing alternative.
